Inexpensive Summer Fun With Kids
They can’t wait school to be over, yet one week after school ends and you hear it: “I’m bored!” Your poor kids suddenly have absolutely NOTHING to do (wonder why, when their room is packed with toys…).
This summer as our economy is still has his downside and many parents might not be able to afford an expensive vacation here is some fun, easy, unique and AFFORDABLE ways to keep them entertained during those long summer months!
- Have a picnic! Spend a day at a different park with a blanket, a good read, and a bag full of snacks, drinks, and meals! Make sure everything you prepare is okay to sit in the sun/heat/outside without spoiling! Your kids will think of it as a neat adventure, eating away from the kitchen table like they’re used to!
- Check your local newspaper and magazines for things going on around your town. Most weekends during the summer you will find out about free festivals, outside concerts, and kids activities. These can be great ways to “mix it up” during the summer and never get bored of the daily grind!
- If your zoo has a family pass for the year, snag one! Plan different activities while there–have your kids find a certain animal, or have a photo contest with your digital cameras and see who takes the best photos during your trip! And remember–you can go as much as you’d like with an annual pass!
- See what’s going on at the local libraries. Have your kids grab some books of interest in the kid’s area and let them read to their hearts’ content! This also frees YOU up to catch up on some recent magazines that you don’t have subscriptions to.
- Go bowling! Some bowling alleys offer inexpensive bowling games during the week. When you’re a stay-at-home mom or you take a week or two of work, you can take great advantage of this! You can spend a whole day at the bowling alley for less than a dinner out with the family!
- Never forget the local pools! For a couple bucks, the kids can swim at the public pool until they wear out–giving you a few hours of peace and quiet!
- Pool too packed? Hook up a sprinkler to your hose in the backyard. I’m not quite sure what it is about sprinklers, but kids love running through them! Nothing feels better on a hot summer day! Be sure to serve lemonade while they’re playing!
- Sidewalk chalk can be highly entertaining for children. Play some drawing games on your driveway, or have a coloring contest. Invite the neighborhood kids work together as a team to create a masterpiece on the steps going up to your front door.
- Wash the car! My boys love to wash the cars. Turn on the hose, soap up a bucket of water and have fun! Don’t forget to put on your swimsuits and have a water fight when you’re done!
Remember keep an eye out for free or inexpensive events at local hot spots.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to offer your kids a summer filled with excitement, be creative and you all will have a great summer without breaking the bank!
